ABSTRACT

Resumo Introdução Desastres trazem consequências humanas, socioeconômicas e ambientais e agravam situações de vulnerabilidade. Tanto países centrais, altamente industrializados, como países com dificuldades econômicas estão sujeitos a esses eventos. No Brasil, a pandemia de COVID-19 e o rompimento de barragens evidenciam dificuldades em se antecipar e responder esses tipos de eventos. Ações da terapia ocupacional no campo das emergências e desastres são escassas na literatura, notadamente na esfera da prevenção. Objetivo Explorar as evidências da contribuição de terapeutas ocupacionais no domínio da gestão de risco e desastres a partir das características, prioridades e principais áreas de interesse da produção intelectual em terapia ocupacional. Método Uma pesquisa abrangente será conduzida nos periódicos Disasters, Hazards & Crisis in Public Policy, International Journal of Mass Emergencies and Disasters, and Risk, International Journal of Risk Reduction e Journal of Contingencies and Crisis Management, assim como nas bases de dados Occupational Therapy Literature Search Service (OTDBASE), PubMed e Web of Science. Critérios de inclusão Ações e experiências no âmbito da terapia ocupacional, notadamente aquelas de terapeutas ocupacionais na gestão de riscos e desastres, encontradas em estudos revisados por pares, que adotem métodos quantitativos, qualitativos e mistos, nos idiomas espanhol, inglês e português, sem restrição temporal. A abordagem preconizada pelo Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI) para seleção de estudos, avaliação crítica, extração e síntese de dados será utilizada.


Abstract Introduction Disasters bring human, socioeconomic, and environmental consequences and exacerbate situations of vulnerability. Both highly industrialized core countries and those facing economic difficulties are subject to these events. In Brazil, the COVID-19 pandemic and the collapse of dams highlight difficulties in anticipating and responding to these types of events. Actions of occupational therapy in the field of emergencies and disasters are scarce in the literature, notably in the sphere of prevention. Objective To explore the evidence of the contribution of occupational therapists in the field of risk management and disasters based on the characteristics, priorities, and main areas of interest of intellectual production in occupational therapy. Method A comprehensive search will be conducted in the journals Disasters, Hazards & Crisis in Public Policy, International Journal of Mass Emergencies and Disasters, and Risk, International Journal of Risk Reduction, and Journal of Contingencies and Crisis Management, as well as in the databases Occupational Therapy Literature Search Service (OTDBASE), PubMed, and Web of Science. Inclusion Criteria Actions and experiences in the field of occupational therapy, notably those of occupational therapists in risk and disaster management, found in peer-reviewed studies adopting quantitative, qualitative, and mixed methods, in Spanish, English, and Portuguese, without temporal restriction. The approach advocated by the Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI) for study selection, critical appraisal, and data collection and synthesis will be used.

RESUMEN INTRODUCCIÓN: El diagnóstico oportuno del trastorno neurocognitivo es de los principales retos en la atención de los trastornos neurocognitivos. Por esto, se han generado estrategias para la detección preclínica de la enfermedad, entre ellas las destinadas a evaluar síntomas neuropsiquiátricos (NPS) como la escala Mild Behavior Impairment - Checklist (MBI-C). MÉTODOS: Inicialmente se realizó una búsqueda en BVSalud, Medline y PsycNet, luego se realizó una búsqueda en bola de nieve. Se incluyeron términos referentes a deterioro comportamental leve (abarcando los NPS en etapas tempranas), deterioro cognitivo leve y términos específicos del MBI-C. RESULTADOS: La presencia de NPS se asocia con un aumento en la incidencia anual de demencia. Al evaluarlos con MBI-C, su puntuación se correlaciona con biomarcadores como una mayor atrofia cortical, la presencia de la proteína β-amiloide, así como disminución en funciones ejecutivas como la capacidad de enfocar la atención y la memoria de trabajo. DISCUSIÓN: Los hallazgos en la literatura sugieren la utilidad de MBI-C como marcador de neurodegeneración en estadios previos a la demencia, esto mediante la evaluación de su capacidad predictiva de forma independiente y al compararla con otros biomarcadores. CONCLUSIONES: MBI-C supone ser un instrumento de fácil aplicabilidad e interpretación, sostenible e incluyente. Sin embargo, quedan vacíos sobre la pertinencia de esta escala, por lo que surge la necesidad de investigar este tema.


ABSTRACT INTRODUCTION: Early diagnosis of neurocognitive disorder is the main challenge of dementia health attention. Therefore, strategies for preclinical detection of the disease have been created, like those intended to evaluate neuropsychiatric symptoms (NPS), like the Mild Behavior Impairment - Checklist (MBI-C). METHODS: Research was performed in BVSalud, Medline, and Psynet. Then a snowball sampling was done. The terms included were mild behavioral impairment (included NPS in initial stages), mild cognitive impairment, and specific terms of MBI-C. RESULTS: The presence of NPS increase the incidence of dementia, with an annual conversion rate of 9%. About MBI-C, the score has been related to biomarkers like worse brain atrophy in patients with Parkinson's Disease and a positive relationship with the presence of B-amyloid protein. Also, Creese and cols. show that mild behavioral impairment (measured by MBI-C) is associated with a faster decrease in attention and working memory. DISCUSSION: MBI-C utility as a neurodegenerative marker has been demonstrated to detect cognitive, neuropsychiatry, and functional symptoms that may precede dementia by evaluating its predictive capacity alone and comparing it to other biomarkers. CONCLUSION: MBI-C is easy to apply and interpret, is sustainable and inclusive. However, there are still gaps in the relevance of the scale, so there is the need to continue investigating this topic.

ABSTRACT Introduction: The research shows that most yoga students consider it a low-intensity and low-risk training, evidencing the lack of awareness related to prevention and safety methods, two causal factors of sports injuries. Added to this danger is the scarce literature scientifically reporting the prevention methods for college students practicing this activity. Objective: Study the prevention of injuries during yoga practice by college students, exploring the risk management of this activity. Methods: Patients admitted to a hospital, yoga practitioners, were volunteers in a questionnaire to raise the main injuries and their causes. Data such as time of practice, frequency, and recurrence of injuries were also cataloged. A preventive protocol was elaborated based on the data of the collected accidents and tested with another 50 volunteers divided equally into control and experimental groups. The control group received no interventions. The experimental group added 10 minutes of warm-up and stretching based on the elaborated protocol. Interventions were three times weekly for eight weeks. Risk mitigation data and FMS tests were collected and compared. Results: The total FMS test score in the experimental group increased from 12.5 to 16.2, with a significant impact. The total FMS test score of college students in the control group before the experiment was 12.5 to 14.3. Conclusion: Adding warm-up exercises combined with preparation activities by stretching and basic yoga movements before the start of activities can help athletes' physical condition and reduce the occurrence of sports injuries. RESUMO Introdução: As pesquisas mostram que a maioria dos estudantes praticantes de ioga a considera um treinamento de baixa intensidade e baixo risco, evidenciando a falta de consciência relacionada à prevenção e métodos de segurança, dois fatores causais de lesões esportivas. Soma-se a essa periculosidade a escassa literatura relatando cientificamente os métodos de prevenção aos estudantes universitários praticantes dessa atividade. Objetivo: Estudar a prevenção de lesões durante a prática do exercício de ioga pelos estudantes universitários, explorando a gestão de riscos dessa atividade. Métodos: Pacientes internados em um hospital, praticantes de ioga, foram voluntários em um questionário para levantar as principais lesões e suas causas. Dados como tempo de prática, frequência e reincidências de lesões também foram catalogadas. Um protocolo preventivo foi elaborado com base nos dados dos acidentes coletados e experimentado com outros 50 voluntários divididos igualmente em grupo controle e experimental. O grupo de controle não recebeu intervenções. O grupo experimental acrescentou 10 minutos de aquecimento e alongamento com base no protocolo elaborado. As intervenções foram de 3 vezes semanais, por 8 semanas. Dados de mitigação de riscos e teste FMS foram coletados e comparados. Resultados: A pontuação total do teste FMS no grupo experimental aumentou de 12,5 para 16,2, com impacto significativo. A pontuação total do teste FMS de estudantes universitários do grupo de controle antes do experimento foi de 12,5 para 14,3. Conclusão: A adição de exercícios de aquecimento combinados com atividades de preparação por alongamento e movimentos básicos de ioga antes do início das atividades pode auxiliar na condição física dos atletas e reduzir a ocorrência de lesões esportivas. Nível de evidência II; Estudos terapêuticos - investigação dos resultados do tratamento.


Resumen Introducción: Las investigaciones muestran que la mayoría de los estudiantes que practican yoga lo consideran un entrenamiento de baja intensidad y bajo riesgo, lo que evidencia la falta de concienciación relacionada con los métodos de prevención y seguridad, dos factores causales de las lesiones deportivas. A este peligro se suma la escasa literatura que informe científicamente sobre los métodos de prevención para los universitarios que practican esta actividad. Objetivo: Estudiar la prevención de lesiones durante la práctica del ejercicio de yoga por los estudiantes universitarios, explorando la gestión de riesgos de esta actividad. Métodos: Los pacientes ingresados en un hospital, practicantes de yoga, fueron voluntarios en un cuestionario para plantear las principales lesiones y sus causas. También se catalogaron datos como el tiempo de práctica, la frecuencia y la recurrencia de las lesiones. Se elaboró un protocolo preventivo basado en los datos de los accidentes recogidos y se experimentó con otros 50 voluntarios divididos a partes iguales en grupo de control y grupo experimental. El grupo de control no recibió ninguna intervención. El grupo experimental añadió 10 minutos de calentamiento y estiramientos basados en el protocolo elaborado. Las intervenciones se realizaron 3 veces por semana durante 8 semanas. Se recopilaron y compararon los datos de mitigación de riesgos y la prueba FMS. Resultados: La puntuación total de la prueba FMS en el grupo experimental aumentó de 12,5 a 16,2, con un impacto significativo. La puntuación total en la prueba FMS de los estudiantes universitarios del grupo de control antes del experimento era de 12,5 a 14,3. Conclusión: La adición de ejercicios de calentamiento combinados con actividades de preparación mediante estiramientos y movimientos básicos de yoga antes del inicio de las actividades puede ayudar a la condición física de los deportistas y reducir la aparición de lesiones deportivas. Introducción: Los fabricantes de los dispositivos médicos no siempre disponen de experiencia para realizar un proceso de gestión de riesgos que cumpla con la norma ISO 14971:2019 e incluya los requisitos metrológicos necesarios; por tanto, para un mejor uso de estos equipos, especialmente los de diagnóstico, se debe implementar y mantener un proceso de gestión de riesgos basado en las normativas establecidas. Objetivo: Proponer una guía para la gestión de los riesgos indirectos en pacientes con diagnósticos incorrectos o retrasados. Métodos: Se revisaron las normas internacionales aplicables y se analizaron expedientes de gestión del riesgo de dispositivos médicos, entre ellos reactivos para el diagnóstico in vitro. Resultados: La guía ofrece elementos orientadores para cada etapa del proceso de gestión de riesgos en los dispositivos médicos para el diagnóstico: plan de gestión del riesgo, análisis, valoración y control del riesgo, evaluación del riesgo residual global, revisión de la gestión de riesgo y retroalimentación a partir de la información de producción o posproducción. Conclusiones: Esta guía es una herramienta útil para diseñadores, fabricantes, evaluadores de dispositivos médicos para el diagnóstico, asesores en temas de gestión de riesgos y la calidad de los dispositivos y personal médico.


Introduction: Manufacturers of medical devices do not always have the expertise to perform a risk management process that complies with ISO 14971:2019 and includes the necessary metrological requirements; therefore, for better use of these devices, especially diagnostic devices, a risk management process based on established regulations should be implemented and maintained. Objective: To provide guidance for the management of indirect risks in patients with incorrect or delayed diagnoses. Methods: Applicable international standards were reviewed and risk management dossiers for medical devices, including in-vitro diagnostic reagents, were analyzed. Results: The guidance provides guiding elements for each step of the risk management process for diagnostic medical devices: risk management plan, risk analysis, risk assessment, risk evaluation and control, overall residual risk assessment, risk management review, and feedback from production or post-production information. Conclusions: This guide is a useful tool for designers, manufacturers, evaluators of diagnostic medical devices, risk management and device quality assessors, and medical personnel.

ABSTRACT

Abstract The construction of highways is responsible for access to previously protected areas, resulting in changes in landscape and dynamics of the animal populations that live in these areas. These enterprises are the major responsible for the mortality of wild animals, surpassing hunting and even the trafficking of animals. The objective of this study was to make a list that reflects the diversity of amphibians and reptile's road-killed along the BR-040, a highway that crosses the threaten lowland Atlantic Forest in Southeastern region of Brazil, including the use of microhabitats, lifestyle, activity pattern, reproductive cycles, and possible rare or endangered species. The study area consists of 180,4 km of highways. Monitoring began in 2006 and continues to the present day. A total of 1,410 individuals from 60 species were recorded in this study. The reptiles were more frequent in number of individuals and species. The commonest species recorded were Crotalus durissus and Dipsas mikanii. We have registered a single endangered species: Ranacephala hogei. The highest rates of road-kill were recorded during the wet season. Road-kills of fauna is a major threat to species, studies are of great importance to define plans that seek to mitigate the effects generated by these enterprises.


Resumo A construção de rodovias é responsável pelo acesso a áreas anteriormente protegidas, resultando em alterações na paisagem e na dinâmica das populações animais que vivem nessas áreas. Esses empreendimentos são os maiores responsáveis pela mortalidade de animais silvestres, superando a caça e até mesmo o tráfico de animais. O objetivo deste estudo foi realizar uma lista que reflita a diversidade de anfíbios e répteis atropelados ao longo da BR-040, uma rodovia que atravessa a ameaçada Mata Atlântica na região Sudeste do Brasil, incluindo o uso de microhabitats, estilo de vida, padrão de atividade, ciclos reprodutivos, e possíveis espécies raras ou ameaçadas. A área de estudo é constituída por 180,4 km de rodovias. O monitoramento começou em 2006 e segue até os dias atuais. Ao todo 1.410 indivíduos de 60 espécies foram registrados nesse estudo. Os répteis foram mais frequentes, em número de indivíduos e espécies. As espécies mais comumente registradas foram Crotalus durissus e Dipsas mikanii. Registramos uma espécie ameaçada de extinção: Ranacephala hogei. A maior taxa de atropelamento foi registrada durante a estação chuvosa. O atropelamento de fauna é uma grande ameaça as espécies, sendo de grande importância estudos para definição de planos que busquem mitigar os efeitos gerados por esses empreendimentos.

Introducción: La compensación ambiental es un instrumento técnico-jurídico de gestión ambiental utilizado para compensar el daño ambiental debido a los impactos irreversibles e inevitables de proyectos de desarrollo. Por lo general, las regulaciones de compensación se incluyen en la legislación ambiental nacional. Este artículo resume la legislación de compensación ambiental en Costa Rica, un país con una reconocida tradición de conservación y conciencia ambiental. Nuestro objetivo es describir cómo se formula la compensación en ese país e identificar posibles vacíos regulatorios. Métodos: Realizamos una revisión sistemática de la legislación ambiental a través del Sistema Costarricense de Información Jurídica (http://www.pgrweb.go.cr/scij/avanzada_pgr.aspx), considerando tanto normativa como pronunciamientos sobre medidas de compensación y mitigación. Resultados: La Constitución Política de Costa Rica reconoce el medio ambiente sano como un derecho fundamental de todos los ciudadanos. Actualmente se encuentran en vigencia al menos siete leyes que tratan de temas ambientales y sus respectivos reglamentos. Esta voluminosa legislación tiene como objetivo proteger los recursos naturales regulando su uso y creando un conjunto de áreas silvestres protegidas. Sin embargo, la legislación es algo repetitiva y abierta a interpretación, lo que facilita la confusión. Las acciones que requieren compensación están reguladas de manera general, lo que dificulta establecer cuándo y cómo aplicarlas. Además, la compensación se considera en función de cuándo se identifica el daño y no debido a su nivel de impacto ambiental. Asimismo, la normativa no hace explícitos los principios y objetivos que sustentan las medidas compensatorias ni cómo deben llevarse a cabo, mencionando brevemente algunas acciones que no aseguran que la pérdida ambiental neta sea cero. Conclusiones: Esta revisión revela la necesidad de estandarizar los mecanismos para determinar las medidas compensatorias a nivel regulatorio, analizando además las estrategias que se seguirán para asegurar la proporcionalidad y la equivalencia ecológica. La legislación debe enfatizar la importancia de la compensación como práctica positiva, la cual debe ser incorporada dentro de los lineamientos del Estudio de Impacto Ambiental.


Introduction: Environmental compensation is a technical-legal instrument of environmental management used to offset damage due to non-reversible and unavoidable impacts. Usually, offset regulations are included in national environmental legislations. This paper summarizes environmental compensation legislation in Costa Rica, a country with a recognized conservation tradition and environmental awareness. Our goal is to describe how compensation is formulated in that country and identify possible regulations gaps. Methods: We carried out a systematic review of environmental legislation through the Costa Rican Legal Information System (http://www.pgrweb.go.cr/scij/avanzada_pgr.aspx), considering both regulations and pronouncements on compensation measures and mitigation. Results: The Political Constitution of Costa Rica recognizes a healthy environment as a fundamental right for all citizens. At least seven laws dealing with environmental issues and their respective regulations are currently enforced. This bulky legislation aims to protect natural resources by regulating their use and creating an assemblage of protected wild areas. However, the legislation is somewhat repetitive and open to interpretation, facilitating confusion. Actions requiring compensation are regulated in a general way, making it difficult to establish when and how to apply them. In addition, compensation is considered based on when the damage is identified and not on its level of environmental impact. Furthermore, the regulations do not make explicit the principles and goals that support the compensatory measures or how they should be carried out, briefly mentioning some actions that do not ensure that the net environmental loss is zero. Conclusions: This review reveals the need to standardize the mechanisms to determine compensatory measures at the regulatory level, also analyzing the strategies that will be followed to ensure proportionality and ecological equivalence. The legislation must emphasize the importance of compensation as a positive practice, which must be incorporated within the guidelines of the Environmental Impact Study.

Introducción: La compensación ambiental es la alternativa final para enfrentar los impactos de proyectos de desarrollo que no pueden ser evitados, reducidos o mitigados. La compensación de hábitats pretende sustituir recursos ecológicamente equivalentes. El Método Hectárea de Hábitat se diseñó inicialmente para evaluar la equivalencia ecológica de vegetación nativa y emplea puntajes de indicadores relativos a un hábitat de referencia. La suma de estos puntajes mide la condición estructural del ambiente de manera relativa a la referencia, cuantificando el número de hectáreas necesarias para compensar la pérdida de un hábitat similar. Aunque el método no está exento de limitaciones, los valores se pueden estimar a partir de datos de campo recogidos sin ambigüedad, de forma reproducible, con menos sesgos que métodos más cualitativos. En este artículo, usamos una modificación del Método Hectárea de Hábitat para determinar el área equivalente necesaria para compensar la pérdida de hábitat en un área silvestre protegida en Costa Rica. Metodología: Trabajamos en la Reserva Biológica Lomas de Barbudal, Pacífico norte de Costa Rica, un área silvestre protegida donde se inundarán cerca de 113 hectáreas para el Embalse de Río Piedras. En una propiedad previamente identificada como un sitio potencial de compensación, evaluamos indicadores de paisaje, suelo, estructura de la vegetación y servicios ecosistémicos; asignamos los puntajes en relación con el sitio a inundar. Resultados: El puntaje de la condición ambiental en el sitio de compensación fue de 44,7% (±15,9%) del sitio inundado. En consecuencia, considerando la incertidumbre de nuestras mediciones, compensar la pérdida de cada hectárea requeriría entre 2.23 y 3.49 hectáreas de un ambiente similar. Conclusión: Se necesitan entre 2.23 y 3.49 hectáreas de reemplazo, para compensar la pérdida de hábitat en el Embalse de Río Piedras.


Introduction: Environmental compensation is the final alternative to face the impacts of development projects that cannot be avoided, reduced, or mitigated. The offset of affected habitats or environmental elements usually substitutes ecologically equivalent resources. The Habitat-Hectare Method was initially designed to assess the ecological equivalence of native vegetation, and employs indicator scores relative to a reference habitat. The sum of these scores measures the structural condition of the environment against the reference, quantifying the number of hectares needed to compensate for the loss of similar habitat. Although it is not exempt from limitations, the values can be estimated from field data collected without ambiguity, in a reproducible way, with less bias than more qualitative methods. In this paper, we use a modification of the Habitat-Hectare Method to determine the equivalent area needed to compensate for habitat loss in a protected wilderness in Costa Rica. Methods: We worked in the Lomas de Barbudal Biological Reserve, north Pacific of Costa Rica, a protected wilderness where nearly 113 hectares will be flooded for the Río Piedras Reservoir. In a property previously identified as a potential compensation site, we assessed indicators for landscape, soil, vegetation structure, and ecosystem services; the scores were assigned in relation to the environment found at the flood site. Results: The environmental condition score at the compensation site was 44.7% (±15.9%) of the impact site. Consequently, considering the uncertainty in our measurements, compensating for the loss of each hectare would require between 2.23 and 3.49 hectares of a similar environment. Conclusion: Between 2.23 and 3.49 hectares of are needed to compensate for the loss of habitat in the Río Piedras Reservoir.

Introducción: La ley Orgánica del Ambiente 7554, señala a la Secretaría Técnica Nacional Ambiental (SETENA) como la institución encargada de evaluar y dar seguimiento a las medidas de compensación ambiental en Costa Rica. Objetivo: Exponer el marco jurídico y legislación que rige y aplica la SETENA en el tema de compensación ambiental. Métodos: Se describe brevemente un caso de estudio sobre como la compensación ha sido implementada en el país. Resultados: SETENA interpreta la compensación ambiental como un conjunto de medidas y acciones generadoras de beneficios ambientales que: 1) son proporcionales a impactos o perjuicios ambientales causados por el desarrollo de los proyectos siempre que no se puedan adoptar medidas de prevención, corrección o mitigación; y 2) constituyen una herramienta a utilizar durante la etapa de gestión ambiental, en la fase constructiva u operativa, cuando se evidencien incumplimientos a los compromisos ambientales adquiridos, faltas a la normativa ambiental, o daños ambientales identificados después de obtener la licencia ambiental para el proyecto. Conclusión: SETENA define los Planes de Compensación Ambiental como un procedimiento que sirve de guía para establecer la toma de acciones. Las medidas de compensación se establecen de acuerdo con el tipo de proyecto y hallazgos encontrados durante el monitoreo, por lo que no hay una estandarización para estos planes de compensación.


Introduction: The Organic Law of the Environment No. 7554 designates the National Environmental Technical Secretary (Spanish Acronym - SETENA) as the institution in charge of evaluating and following up on environmental compensation measures in Costa Rica. Objective: To expose the legal framework and legislation that governs and applies SETENA about environmental compensation in this country. Methods: A case study on how compensation has been implemented in the country is briefly described. Results: SETENA interprets environmental compensation as a set of measures and actions that generate environmental benefits that: 1) are proportional to the environmental impacts or damages caused by the development projects, provided that prevention, correction, or mitigation measures cannot be adopted; and 2) is a tool to be used during the environmental management stage, in the construction or operational phase, when there is evidence of non-compliance with the acquired environmental commitments, lack of environmental regulations, or environmental damage identified after reaching environmental approval for the project. Conclusion: SETENA defines the Environmental Compensation Plan as a procedure that serves as a guide to establish the actions to take. The compensation measures are dictated concerning the type of project and the findings encountered during its monitoring, which is why there is no standardization of these compensation plans.

ABSTRACT

Conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) is a polyunsaturated fatty acid with various positional and geometric isomers of linoleic acid (LA) present mainly in food items and produced endogenously in non-ruminants and humans or through fermentation process. It is associated with health-beneficial effects and subject to more research on its natural sources (ruminant-derived foods) and strategies to increase the content in various foodstuffs. Although several studies have reported the most common intake value of 0.8 g/day (0.6 to 3.0 g/day), research for raising in situ concentration should focus on strategies such as in vitro bioconversion of its precursors by bacteria and supplementation of LA rich-oils in foods fermentation process. In this study, the ability of some lactic acid bacteria (LAB) from diverse samples to produce CLA from sunflower oil and the effect on production yield of fermentation medium supplementation with carbonate calcium were investigated. Results showed that ten Limosilactobacillus fermentum and Enterococcus faecium produced trans-10, cis-12-CLA isomer accounted for at least 85% of total CLA ranging from 4.64 to 5.22 µg/mL. Despite the fermentation medium supplementation with CaCO3 enhanced the production yield, the residual LA inhibitory effect on bacteria growth governing CLA biosynthesis process was not mitigated. So, although our LAB strains can produce CLA, the more the LA concentration goes up, the more the conversion rate downgrades. Further studies on strains behavior in a wide range of LA concentrations will help establish a stable relationship between bacteria and LA in the presence of CaCO3.

RESUMO A má distribuição geográfica de águas em território nacional aliada ao seu desperdício, à poluição dos cursos d'água próximos aos centros urbanos e industriais e à eficiência inadequada de processos de tratamento convencionais faz com que o tratamento e o reúso de água sejam tópicos de crescente importância no Brasil. Um dos métodos de tratamento de água são os processos de separação por membranas, como a nanofiltração. No entanto, esses processos estão sujeitos ao fenômeno de incrustação, que provoca diminuição gradativa de sua eficiência. Sendo assim, o presente trabalho visou à avaliação de diferentes métodos de pré-tratamento de água para mitigação da formação de biofilme em membranas de nanofiltração. Os processos de adsorção em partículas de alumina e desinfecção por meio de carvão ativado impregnado com nanopartículas de prata foram aplicados em uma amostra de um corpo d'água superficial. As amostras com e sem pré-tratamento foram nanofiltradas e a propensão à incrustação de cada uma foi avaliada. As eficiências de remoção de compostos orgânicos dos adsorventes empregados separadamente e em conjunto e as análises de absorção UV/Vis, microscópio eletrônico de varredura e espectroscopia de energia dispersiva do carvão ativado impregnado com nanopartículas de prata mostraram que os materiais empregados no pré-tratamento puderam ser apropriadamente sintetizados. Foi possível também identificar os principais grupos funcionais dos biopolímeros presentes nos biofilmes formados ao longo do tempo. Por fim, pôde-se observar que a adsorção da matéria orgânica é mais eficiente para o controle da incrustação rápida, enquanto o efeito bactericida se destaca no controle a longo prazo.


ABSTRACT The poor geographical distribution of water in the national territory combined with its waste, the pollution of watercourses close to urban and industrial centers, and the inadequate efficiency of conventional treatment processes make the treatment and reuse of water topics of increasing importance in Brazil. One of the advanced water treatment methods is membrane separation processes, such as nanofiltration. However, these processes are subject to fouling phenomenon, which causes a gradual decrease in the efficiency of the process. Therefore, the present work aims to evaluate different methods of pretreatment of water to mitigate the formation of biofilm in nanofiltration membranes. The adsorption processes on alumina particles and disinfection through activated carbon impregnated with silver nanoparticles were applied to a sample of a surface water body. Samples with and without pretreatment were nanofiltered and the propensity to fouling was evaluated. The efficiency of the adsorbents, used both separately and together, in removing organic compounds and the UV/Vis, scanning electron microscope, and Energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy analyses of the activated carbon impregnated with silver nanoparticles showed that the materials used in the pre-treatment were properly synthesized. It was also possible to identify the main functional groups of the biopolymers present in biofilms formed over time. Finally, it was observed that the adsorption of organic matter is more efficient for the control of rapid fouling while the bactericidal effect stands out in the long-term fouling control.

Resumen Introducción: En Colombia se estima que existen 7 675 032 víctimas del conflicto armado. Uno de los departamentos del país con mayor afectación de personas es Huila. Debido al impacto del conflicto sobre la salud, es necesario realizar la caracterización de la población para identificar las necesidades derivadas de este y orientar las intervenciones. Objetivo: Elaborar un programa de atención psicosocial y salud integral a víctimas del conflicto armado residentes en la cabecera municipal de Algeciras (Huila), Colombia. Métodos: Diseño cuantitativo cross-sectional con fase descriptiva retrospectiva. Se realizó búsqueda activa en el municipio para el reconocimiento de la población víctima del conflicto. Para el análisis se utilizó Excel 2016 y SPSS versión 24. Resultados: La prevalencia para la población víctima del conflicto armado fue del 80,0 %. El tipo de violencia al que estuvieron expuestos fue desplazamiento (51,0 %) con un periodo de afectación entre diez a veinte años (35,8 %). Según grupos de edad predominaron las edades entre los 30 a 34 años con un 11,7 %. Conclusiones: 1) La prevalencia estimada para la población víctima del conflicto armado puso de manifiesto el reto psicosocial para dar respuesta desde una pespectiva individual, familiar y comunitaria. 2) Las intervenciones planteadas estuvieron orientadas hacia la atención psicosocial y desarrollo de habilidades individuales y sociales, las cuales deben complementarse con acciones interinstitucionales e intersectoriales para el mejoramiento de los determinantes sociales de la salud.


Abstract Introduction: In Colombia it is estimated that a total of 7,675,032 victims exist due to the armed conflict. Huila is one of the departments in the country with the greatest impact on people. Due to the impact of the conflict on health, it is necessary to characterize the population in order to identify the needs derived from the conflict and to orient the interventions. Objective: To design a program of psychosocial attention and integral health to victims of the armed conflict whom are residents of Algeciras (Huila), Colombia. Methods: Quantitative-based cross-sectional with a retrospective descriptive phase. An active search was performed in the municipality to identify victims of the conflict amongst the population. Excel 2016 and SPSS version 24 were used for the analysis. Results: The prevalence of victims was 80.0 %. The type of violence experienced by victims was displacement (51.0%) with an affected period between ten to twenty years (35.8%). Regarding age groups, those aged between 30 to 34 years were predominately affected (11.7%). Conclusions: 1) The estimated prevalence of the victim population highlights the psychosocial challenge to provide an individual, family and community response. 2) The proposed practices are oriented towards psychosocial care and the development of individual and social skills, which must be complementary with inter-institutional and intersectoral actions for the improvement of social determinants of health.

Salvia hispanica cultivation is recent in Brazil and occurs in the off-season, when there is lower water availability in the soil. Water deficit is one of the abiotic factors that most limit germination for compromising the sequence of metabolic events that culminate with seedling emergence. Several attenuating substances have been used to mitigate the effects resulting from this stress and give higher tolerance to the species. Thus, the objective of this study was to evaluate the action of different agents as water stress attenuators in the germination and accumulation of organic compounds in S. hispanica seedlings. The treatments consisted of pre-soaking the seeds for 4 hours in salicylic acid (1 mM.L-1), gibberellic acid (0.4 mM.L-1), distilled water and control treatment (without soaking). The seeds were germinated at osmotic potentials of 0.0, -0.1, -0.2, -0.3 and -0.4 MPa, using PEG 6000 as an osmotic agent. The variables germination percentage, germination speed index, shoot and primary root lengths, total dry mass, proline, total soluble sugars and total free amino acids were analyzed. Salicylic acid and gibberellic acid led to the best results among the attenuators tested, increasing germination, length, dry mass and biochemical components of S. hispanica seedlings under water deficit. Therefore, salicylic and gibberellic acids are efficient in mitigating water stress in S. hispanica seeds up to the potential of -0.4 MPa.


O cultivo da Salvia hispanica é recente no Brasil e se dá no período de entressafra, quando há menor disponibilidade hídrica no solo. O déficit hídrico é um dos fatores abióticos que mais limitam a germinação por comprometer a sequência de eventos metabólicos que culminam com a emergência da plântula. Diversas substâncias atenuadoras têm sido empregadas com a finalidade de mitigar os efeitos resultantes desse estresse e conferir maior tolerância às espécies. RESUMEN Objetivo. Evaluar el impacto de las intervenciones introducidas en Costa Rica durante 2020 y 2021 para el control de la pandemia por COVID-19. Método. Se empleó un modelo bayesiano de regresión de Poisson que incorporó las medidas de control o intervención como variables independientes sobre la modificación de la cantidad de casos por semana epidemiológica. Resultados. Los resultados evidenciaron el efecto relativo y conjunto que han tenido las políticas o medidas de contención en la reducción de casos, principalmente la restricción vehicular, el uso de mascarillas y la puesta en práctica de los lineamientos y protocolos sanitarios. Las evidencias de los efectos se optimizaron y se pusieron a disposición para la toma de decisiones de las autoridades sanitarias y de emergencia del país. Se generaron varias iteraciones para el monitoreo constante de la variación en los efectos en cuatro momentos distintos del avance de la pandemia. Conclusión. La aplicación simultánea de distintas medidas de mitigación en Costa Rica ha sido un agente promotor de la disminución de casos de COVID-19.


ABSTRACT Objective. Assess the impact of interventions introduced in Costa Rica during 2020 and 2021 to control the COVID-19 pandemic. Methods. A Bayesian Poisson regression model was used, incorporating control or intervention measures as independent variables in the changes in reported case numbers per epidemiological week. Results. The results showed the relative and combined impact of containment policies and measures on the reduction of cases: mainly vehicular traffic restrictions, use of masks, and implementation of health guidelines and protocols. Evidence of impact was optimized and made available for decision-making by the country's health and emergency authorities. Several iterations were generated for constant monitoring of variations in impact at four different moments in the pandemic's spread. Conclusion. The simultaneous implementation of different mitigation measures in Costa Rica has been a driving force in reducing the number of COVID-19 cases.

ABSTRACT

In 2020 the Global Fund for AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria initiated a new funding modality, the COVID-19 Response Mechanism, to mitigate the pandemic's effects on HIV, TB and malaria programmes and health systems in implementer countries. In 2021 UNAIDS introduced an innovative technical virtual support mechanism for COVID-19 Response Mechanism proposal development to help countries quickly implement COVID-19 interventions while at the same time adapting HIV and related services to the pandemic's circumstances and mitigate its impact while maintaining hard-won gains. It also intended to ensure more attention was paid to communities, human rights and gender considerations in proposal development, resulting in successful proposals to mitigate COVID-19's impact, bring human rights-based and people-centred HIV programmes back on track and even expand their reach through using new delivery platforms. In 2021, applications from 18 sub-Saharan African and Asian countries received in-depth remote peer reviews. We discuss the reviews' key findings and recommendations to improve proposal quality and identify future opportunities for virtual technical support. The model was successful and contributed to better quality funding applications, but also highlighted challenges in pandemic mitigation, adaptations and innovations of HIV programmes. Countries still fell short on comprehensive community, human rights and gender interventions, as well as innovations in HIV service delivery, especially in prevention and gender-based violence. Several other weaknesses meant that some countries would have to refine their programme design and implementation model in the final version of their funding application. There are implications for future assistance to countries trying to mitigate the impact of COVID-19 on their health programmes and innovative ways to deliver technical support using new technologies and local expertise.

ABSTRACT

Introducción/Objetivo: Establecer el nivel de adherencia de un grupo de mujeres trans colombianas a las medidas de prevención ante el SARS-CoV-2. Método: Diseño transversal correlacional descriptivo de una sola etapa. Se administró un cuestionario en línea anónimo a 100 mujeres trans de Colombia. Los resultados fueron obtenidos utilizando métodos estadísticos tanto frecuentistas como bayesianos (a priori- a posteriori). Resultados: Cerca de las tres cuartas partes de las mujeres participantes reportaron un alto nivel de adherencia a las conductas preventivas. Los factores asociados fueron sentirse capaz de implementar las acciones de prevención y creer en la eficacia de ellas, para evitar contagiar a otros, los conflictos con otras personas y problemas legales. Conclusiones: La autoeficacia y los comportamientos gobernados por reglas están relacionados con la adherencia a las medidas de prevención. Abordar la adherencia en tiempos de COVID-19 implica incorporar de manera integral la magnitud de las inequidades e injusticias sociales y las respuestas en salud ante una situación que afecta a la humanidad de manera diversa y diferenciada.


Introduction/Objective: To establish the level of adherence of a group of Colombian trans women to SARS-CoV-2 prevention measures. Method: Single-stage descriptive correlational cross-sectional design. An anonymous online questionnaire was administered to 100 Colombian trans women. The results were obtained using both frequentist and bayesian (a priori-a posteriori) statistical methods. Results: About three-quarters of the participating women reported a high level of adherence to preventive behaviors. Associated factors were feeling able to implement the preventive actions and believing in their effectiveness, to avoid infecting others, conflicts with others, and avoiding legal problems. Conclusions: Self-efficacy and rule-governed behaviors are related to adherence to prevention measures. Addressing adherence in times of COVID-19 implies comprehensively incorporating the magnitude of social inequities and injustices and the health responses to a situation that affects humanity in a diverse and differentiated manner.

ABSTRACT

La pandemia a la que hemos estado expuestos desde diciembre de 2019, trajo consigo la decisión por los gobiernos de decretar la cuarentena para prevenir y evitar la propagación del virus. Las cuarentenas indiscutiblemente generan un significativo impacto desde el punto de vista psicológico y de la salud mental de los individuos. Se realizó un estudio cualitativo-cuantitativo, desarrollado a través de un programa radial. Se identificaron los grupos vulnerables, se implementó un conjunto de intervenciones radiales, la Emisora Provincial CMKX Radio Bayamo asumió inmediatamente una programación especial durante este período y dentro de ella el Programa "Permíteme". En dicho espacio radial se mantuvo una sección para al manejo psicológico de la población, desde el 25 de marzo al 9 de julio, registrándose 35 intervenciones de Psiquiatría sobre aspectos relacionados con esta temática. Predominaron los síntomas como el stress, la ansiedad, trastornos del sueño, confusión y enojo. Como factores estresantes los temores a una mayor duración de la cuarentena, miedo al contagio y la infección, frustración, aburrimiento, escasez de suministros, información inadecuada y pérdidas financieras. El impacto psicológico de la cuarentena fue amplio, sustancial y duradero, los efectos psicológicos de no usar la cuarentena y permitir que la enfermedad se propague podrían ser peores. Los beneficios de la cuarentena para la sociedad suelen ser favorables. Los gobiernos, instituciones y medios de difusión dedicaron espacios para el manejo psicológico del público en general y en particular a los más vulnerables.


The pandemic to which we have been exposed since December 2019, brought with it the decision by governments to decree quarantine to prevent and avoid the spread of the virus. Quarantines unquestionably generate a significant impact from the psychological and mental health point of view of individuals. A qualitative-quantitative study was carried out, developed through a radio program. Vulnerable groups were identified, a set of radio interventions were implemented, the Provincial Station CMKX Radio Bayamo immediately assumed special programming during this period, including the "Permíteme" Program. In this radio space, a section was maintained for the psychological management of the population, from March 25 to July 9, registering 35 psychiatric interventions on aspects related to this topic. Symptoms such as stress, anxiety, sleep disorders, confusion and anger predominated. As stressors, fears of a longer quarantine duration, fear of contagion and infection, frustration, boredom, supply shortages, inadequate information, and financial losses. The psychological impact of the quarantine was broad, substantial and long-lasting, the psychological effects of not using the quarantine and allowing the disease to spread could be worse. The benefits of quarantine for society are usually favorable. Governments, institutions and the media dedicated spaces for the psychological management of the public in general and the most vulnerable in particular.


A pandemia a que estamos expostos desde dezembro de 2019, trouxe consigo a decisão dos governos de decretar a quarentena para prevenir e evitar a propagação do vírus. As quarentenas geram indiscutivelmente um impacto significativo do ponto de vista psicológico e da saúde mental dos indivíduos. Foi realizado um estudo qualitativo-quantitativo, desenvolvido por meio de um programa de rádio. Foram identificados grupos vulneráveis, implementado um conjunto de intervenções radiofónicas, a Estação Provincial CMKX Rádio Bayamo assumiu de imediato uma programação especial neste período, incluindo o Programa "Permíteme". Neste espaço da rádio, foi mantida uma seção de atendimento psicológico à população, de 25 de março a 9 de julho, registrando 35 intervenções psiquiátricas sobre aspectos relacionados ao tema. Predominaram sintomas como estresse, ansiedade, distúrbios do sono, confusão e raiva. Como fatores de estresse, temores de uma quarentena mais longa, medo de contágio e infecção, frustração, tédio, escassez de suprimentos, informações inadequadas e perdas financeiras. O impacto psicológico da quarentena foi amplo, substancial e duradouro; os efeitos psicológicos de não usar a quarentena e de permitir que a doença se propagasse poderiam ser piores. Os benefícios da quarentena para a sociedade são geralmente favoráveis. Governos, instituições e meios de comunicação dedicam espaços para a gestão psicológica do público em geral e dos mais vulneráveis ​​em particular. Abstract Introduction: Although wildlife crossing structures have proven successful at reducing wildlife-vehicle collisions and linking fragmented habitat, their ability to prevent electrocutions of arboreal wildlife has not been closely examined. Objective: To evaluate the effectiveness of aerial rope bridges in restoring habitat connectivity for arboreal species in Manuel Antonio, Costa Rica, while preventing electrocutions by determining 1) what species are using the rope bridges and 2) whether wildlife prefer to use rope bridges instead of other hazardous structures that cross the roads (such as telephone cables, which are often in close proximity to electric wires). Methods: From January to May 2016, nine rope bridges along the highly-trafficked main road that extends from Quepos to Manuel Antonio, Costa Rica, were monitored using camera traps, and ten rope bridges were observed directly along a paved side road off the main road. Results: A total of 11 species were seen using the bridges, and 1 540 crossings were witnessed via camera traps and observations (1 234 via camera traps, 306 during observations). Results from a paired t-test showed no significant difference in the average number of individuals crossing the road via rope bridges versus telephone cables (t(8) = 1.027, P = 0.334). Conclusions: Rope bridges are used by a variety of arboreal wildlife species with a high degree of frequency; however, due to the equally high usage of telephone cables by arboreal wildlife, they are insufficient to prevent wildlife electrocutions on their own. Rope bridges should be installed in tandem with other methods to prevent electrocutions, such as insulating electric wires, to facilitate the safe passage of wildlife over roads.


Resumen Introducción: Aunque los pasos de fauna han demostrado ser exitosos para reducir las colisiones entre vehículos y vida silvestre y vincular el hábitat fragmentado, su capacidad para prevenir electrocuciones de la vida silvestre arbórea no se ha examinado a fondo. Objetivo: Evaluar la efectividad de los puentes aéreos de cuerdas para restaurar la conectividad del hábitat de las especies arbóreas en Manuel Antonio, Costa Rica y al mismo tiempo prevenir las electrocuciones al determinar 1) qué especies están usando los puentes de cuerda y 2) si la vida silvestre prefiere usar puentes de cuerda en lugar de otras estructuras peligrosas que cruzan las carreteras (como cables telefónicos, que frecuentemente están muy cerca de cables eléctricos). Métodos: De enero a mayo de 2016, se monitorearon nueve puentes de cuerda a lo largo de la carretera principal altamente transitada que se extiende desde Quepos a Manuel Antonio, Costa Rica, utilizando cámaras trampa y la observación directa en diez puentes de cuerda a lo largo de una carretera pavimentada más pequeña fuera de la carretera principal. Resultados: Se observaron un total de 11 especies utilizando los puentes y se presenciaron 1 540 cruces mediante cámaras trampa y observaciones (1 234 mediante cámaras trampa, 306 durante las observaciones). Los resultados de una prueba t pareada no mostraron diferencias significativas en el número promedio de individuos que cruzan la carretera a través de puentes de cuerda versus cables telefónicos, t (8) = 1.027, P = 0.334. Conclusiones: Los puentes de cuerdas son utilizados por una variedad de especies de vida silvestre arbóreas con un alto grado de frecuencia; sin embargo, debido al uso igualmente elevado de cables telefónicos por parte de la vida silvestre arbórea, se considera que son insuficientes para prevenir las electrocuciones de la vida silvestre por sí solas. Los puentes de cuerda deben instalarse junto con otros métodos para evitar electrocuciones, como cables eléctricos aislados, para facilitar el paso seguro de la vida silvestre por las carreteras.

Abstract Objective: To estimate temporary changes in the incidence of SARS-CoV-2-confirmed hospitalizations (by date of symptom onset) by age group during and after the national lockdown. Materials and methods: For each age group g, we computed the proportion E(g) of individuals in that age group among all cases aged 10-59y during the early lockdown period (April 20-May 3, 2020), and the corresponding proportion L(g) during the late lockdown (May 18-31, 2020) and post-lockdown (June 15-28, 2020) periods and computed the prevalence ratio: PR(g)=L(g)/E(g). Results: For the late lockdown and post-lockdown periods, the highest PR values were found in age groups 15-19y (late: PR=1.69, 95%CI 1.05,2.72; post-lockdown: PR=2.05, 1.30,3.24) and 20-24y (late: PR=1.43, 1.10,1.86; post-lockdown: PR=1.49, 1.15,1.93). These estimates were higher in individuals 15-24y compared to those ≥30y. Conclusions: Adolescents and younger adults had an increased relative incidence of SARS-CoV-2 during late lockdown and post-lockdown periods. The role of these age groups should be considered when implementing future pandemic response efforts.


Resumen Objetivo: Estimar los cambios temporales en la incidencia de hospitalizaciones confirmadas por SARS-CoV-2 (por fecha de inicio de los síntomas) por grupo de edad durante y después del cierre nacional. Material y métodos: Para cada grupo de edad g, calculamos la proporción E(g) de individuos en ese grupo de edad entre todos los casos de 10 a 59 años durante el periodo de cierre temprano (del 20 de abril al 3 de mayo de 2020) y la proporción correspondiente L(g) durante los periodos de cierre tardío (18-31 de mayo de 2020) y posterior al cierre (15-28 de junio de 2020), y se calculó la razón de prevalencia: RP(g)=L(g)/E(g). Resultados: Para los periodos de cierre tardío y posterior al cierre, los valores de RP más altos se dieron en los grupos de edad de 15 a 19 años (tardío: RP=1.69, IC95% 1.05,2.72; después del cierre: RP=2.05, 1.30,3.24) y 20-24 años (tardío: RP=1.43, 1.10,1.86; después del cierre: RP=1.49, 1.15,1.93). Estas estimaciones fueron más altas en personas de 15 a 24 años en comparación con las de ≥ 30 años Conclusiones: Los adolescentes y los adultos jóvenes tuvieron una mayor incidencia relativa de SARS-CoV-2 durante los periodos de cierre tardío y posteriores al cierre. El papel de estos grupos de edad en la transmisión de la enfermedad debe tenerse en cuenta al implementar futuros esfuerzos de respuesta a una pandemia.
